NotFormer declared, "...the Napoleonic wars were pretty vast in scope, involving a lot of nations of the time..."
And IN FACT, the early WT used Napoleon as the "pivot man" for their "Bible Based Chronology."

When JW.org drops 607BCE...
by Nathan Natas inprobably everyone else thought of this long ago, but i, being an "independent thunker" thunk of it just a coupla weeks ago.. we all know that since the year zero (on the fredfranzian calendar) the wtb&ts has defied archaeology and insisted that jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bce, even though the physical evidence shows that 587 bce is a more likely date.
in fact, the book "the gentile times reconsidered: have jehovah's witnesses been wrong all along about 607 bce?
" by carl olof jonsson and rud persson made this conversation public.. it is a difference of 20 years.

Wow, "Scholar" seems deeply committed to supporting WT misology.
I saw "sound Biblical Chronology" riding a unicorn once.
How flat is the earth, "Scholar"?
I think from now on I'll call myself "Nathan UberMensch The Genius Master Of All he surveys" so people will know my word is TRUTH and that I am not full of shit. -

Remember that they really control a Community
by EdLogan inthere's a lot going on, and a lot of saying.the interpretation of the scriptures, their internal doctrine and their policy change.. the 1914, 1919 and its consequences.. the birthdays and other holidays.. the beard, the tie, the slacks.. the "hi, nice to see you here".. but at the end of the day, what they're in control of, is a community.
a society of people.
and a corporation as well, that controls all this.. many of them don't even really mind about those changes.

I like what EdLogan said, except for one thing: "...the ex-JW community should really unite and "preach" to them,.."
The XJW "community" is not a homogenous cluster of born-again evangelizing Christians. We are Atheists, Buddhists, Muslims, Wikkans, Baháʼí and a million other things. Personally, I'm a non-practicing atheist, and I feel that there are plenty of born-again evangelizing Christian XJWs who would wish me and my friends as DEAD as JW.org does.

Yes, "Nowwhat?," and as Wikipedia reminds us, "The "Time of the End" of Daniel 12:4 is identified as beginning in October 1799—when Napoleon invaded Egypt and ended the power of the papacy—and closing in 1914, at which point violent worldwide revolution would mark the end of the old world order and the beginning of a new one."
I like calling JW.org a "lifestyle religion." Like the snakes they are they will shed their doctrinal skin, especially in regard to the sadly mistaken former leaders of the borganization - Russell, Rutherford, Knorr/Franz - and morph into something that would be unrecognizable to those "inspired" men prior to the 21st century. Their phoney-baloney jobs and their parasitism DEMAND it.
I think it is possible that JW.org will conveniently "forget" about 1919 and their "Jesus selected ME for his team" doctrine. They will find a new prevarication to use as "evidence" that they are the "one true religion," although I can't imagine what that new lie might be.

Probably EVERYONE else thought of this long ago, but I, being an "independent thunker" thunk of it just a coupla weeks ago.
We all know that since the year zero (on the FredFranzian calendar) the WTB&TS has defied archaeology and insisted that Jerusalem was destroyed in 607 BCE, even though the physical evidence shows that 587 BCE is a more likely date. In fact, the book "The Gentile Times Reconsidered: Have Jehovah's Witnesses Been Wrong All Along About 607 BCE?" by Carl Olof Jonsson and Rud Persson made this conversation public.
It is a difference of 20 years. If the WTB&TS drops their adherence to 607 BCE, then the "Bible-based arithmetic" moves the "critical" year 1914 forward 20 years, to 1934, which is exactly what the rumor mills are saying will happen. Now we know why the date 1934 will gain prominence: the WTB&TS will announce "new light" declaring that crackpot Freddy Franz was wrong and the archeologists were right after all.
But you knew that...

The Meaning of ETC
by titch infolks: i don't mean to be a "forum grammar policeman", but there is something that i've noticed a few times.
i've noticed that a few---not all---but some, members of the forum who use the abbreviation "ect" when they want to use the abbreviation of "etc.
" for your education today, the term "etc" is the abbreviation for the latin term "et cetera.

Jehovah's Witnesses Sinner's Prayer
by NotFormer ini've noted before certain similarities between jws and independent fundamentalist baptists, such as door to door work.
the ifbs call it "soul winning".
the goal is usually to give a quick tour of a few bible verses, get the householder to "repeat after me" a formulaic prayer confessing faith in jesus.

I gotta give it to ya,Vanderhoven7, you did it! You revealed the "salvation by dying soon" doctrine. Well done!

Thoughts on annual meeting “new light”
by FFGhost inso, i finally saw the annual meeting video part 2.. this is the one with the “new light” on who might survive armageddon, vs. those who do not.. in summary, for those of you fortunate enough not to have to sit through it, it’s something like this:.
old light: once the “great tribulation” starts, that’s it for non-jws.
the “door of the ark” is closed.

I concur. Great minds think alike; I posted a similar thought in another thread before I read your earlier thoughts here, FFGhost. I did not plagiarize you. Yours is the better comment.

I think Diogenesister is on the right track. If the anal polyp known as Xi Jinping decides to exercise his psychopathy, things in the PRC's immediate neighborhood could become difficult for unapproved ideas and organizations. Moving the BORG staff to Korea protects them. As for JWs who live in Hong Kong, the GB will inform them that they are on their own.

It seems to me that this "new light" doctrine of last-minute salvation kind of lets the air out of the only (if there's another, according to Watchtower mythology, enlighten me) "WORK" by which the individual *might* earn her personal salvation. A half-century ago (yeah, I was there) this required THOUSANDS of hours of door knocking, conducting free home Watchtower studies, with the goal og getting the sucker to sign on the bottom line and dedicate her life to The Watchtower.
"Hot patootie, bless my soul, I really love that rock n' roll!"
